GPNA Community Announcement from Annis Gayle, the Resident Services Coordinator at Trestletree Village
We have a diverse community and many people speak about embracing it. It’s great to live among diversity, but it is admirable to engage with it. One aspect of diversity is social-economic status and our neighborhood has a range of residents financially successful along with those struggling to pay the bills. We have the ability through volunteering to lift up people who need opportunities to achieve their goals. We can grow our neighborhood even stronger and it can be accomplished with a caring attitude.

Rainbow Housing, with the premise to assist adults, families, and children that live at TT to be self-sufficient. Rainbow Housing has staffed a “resident service coordinator” to offer services, experiences, and opportunities which are beneficial to residents. Ms. Annis Gayle has been on-site the past 9 months and works 8:30 - 5:30 Monday - Friday. She will work some Saturdays for special events.
Ms. Gayle is new to the area and needs support from the immediate neighborhoods.
A support group comprising of Grant Park and Ormewood Park residents is forming and listed below are ideas she seeks help with.
She provides a monthly calendar with various individual and community activities based on volunteers offering their time. She is seeking special guests (non-professional/ professionals) to expand monthly activities, especially knowledge-base which may empower people.
Examples: Basic computer skills, credit counseling, financial advice, resume writing, how to maximize coupons/grocery shopping, dietitian, gardener/container plants & vegetables, and anything else that can be useful!
There are residents studying to obtain a GED. Computers are available in the community center and online GED instructors help them, but Ms. Gayle mentioned having a volunteer be a study-partner or help review questions for a test. Rainbow Housing pays for the GED certification and offers scholarships to those that pass. Another volunteer opportunity is coaching those seeking jobs to learn interview skills / job readiness (this could be a monthly session).
Ms. Gayle provides after-school care on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Fridays. Volunteers are needed to help with homework and fun activities. Donations (checks payable to Rainbow Housing) will help pay for healthy snacks, educational-entertainers, and rewards.
Donations: Books! Early learning items such as sight words, animals, colors, puzzles etc., games, balls, bicycles, and sporting equipment)
The children in after-school care are in grades K - 5th grade.
Mentors for middle and high school kids are encouraged too.
